Education
1997 has been a great year for book lovers on the Eastbank. For those looking to buy books, there's the new Barnes and Noble Bookstore on Veterans in Metairie. For those wanting to do research or borrow books, there is the wonderful new Jefferson Parish public library at at 4747 West Napoleon.
At the time this article is being posted, the library is normally open during the following times.
Library cards obtained from any Jefferson Parish library are good at any other parish library. To get a card, you must meet at least one of the following criteria...
If you go to get a library card you will need to present
proof of your current address. Any of the following can be used as proof
of your current address...
Children of any age can get a library card. Children under 13 must have a parent or legal guardian with proof of current address sign their application. You must be 18 years or older to sign out video cassettes.
The first card you get is free. If you need to have it replaced there is a $1.00 fee.
Most of the materials in the library can be signed out with a valid card. Those materials which cannot be signed out include the following...
Books will generally be signed out to you for a three week period. Certain high demand materials may be allowed out for only one or two weeks at a time. You can renew a book in person or by telephone if no one has a hold on it.
If a book you want is not available at East Bank Regional Library, you can request it from another library either in or out of Louisiana. You should allow two to four weeks for receipt of interlibrary materials. Usually this service is free, but there may be charges for things like copies of journal articles.
Individuals are responsible for all materials checked out on their library card. If a book checked out on your card is lost, you will need to pay the replacement cost of the book plus a $10.00 service fee. If the lost book is found within one year the cost of the book will be refunded (you will still be responsible for the $10.00 processing fee).
The amount you will need to pay if a book is damaged will depend on the type of damage and to what extent it can be repaired.
